Birdhouse

Another installment in the bird series. Oil pastel on sanded board

Design for my daughter's baby shower invitations. .

There are sooooo many designs for custom invitations, but nothing was quite what I wanted.  Plus the shower is for TWINS, which narrows down the selection quite a bit.   Thus, the pink and blue eggs in a nest (boy-girl twins) evolved.   This is oil pastel on sanded board, 5 x 7.  NFS  "Waiting Patiently"
It really looks great on our invitations.  :o)

another addition to the teapot series. .

One more addition to my red teapot collection.  This one is acrylic on wrapped canvas 10 x 20 x 1 1/2.     "Teapot Flips for Lemons"

30 sec sketch at Sunset Grill Perdido Key FL

Could not resist this touching moment.  A couple enjoying the sunset.  Didn't realize this restaurant was there, and we've been going to Perdido Key/Gulf Shores for 25 years!    Just a lightning sketch in my journal.

Old Courthouse

"Old Courthouse",  10 x 10 x 2 1/2" acrylic on clayboard.   $75   Will probably be on display at Fine Lines Gallery thru the end of Sept.    Experiment with a looser style and color rendering for me.
I had the pleasure of painting the NEW courthouse yesterday morning , along with several other renowned newnan artists (Deborah Kidwell, Dana Johnson, and 3 or 4 others- Elsa Sibley made some sketches as well).   We all had a nice morning before the heat of the day.    The Newnan Courthouse renovation was just completed, and the ribbon cutting was yesterday.   My painting from yesterday will be posted soon--just a few more finishing touches.    LOVE painting outside!   Too bad the ONLY restaurant open before noon is Goldens!!   WE NEED A SUNDAY COFFEE SHOP!!    Although the early morning quiet was refreshing.
SOLD this past week at Fine Lines Gallery!!

Sunflowers I,  11 x 14 pastel on ampersand.   These were decorations for a dinner party, and too pretty to just let them dissappear.  Getting the water in the glass was interesting, since the red sunflowers colored the water pink for some reason.

Newnan Garden Tour Plein Air

A special treat last weekend.  Many of us got to paint in gardens during the Newnan Garden Tour.    I was fortunate to be in the Umberger garden, which was like being in a "secret" hidden garden.  They have several interesting objects throughout the garden in addition to exceptional plantings and fountains.
"The Blue Door", a 5 x 7 oil on gessoed panel.    Rendering of the potting shed in the garden.

"Gazing Ball" , 5 x 7 oil on gessoed board.    One of many interesting spots in the Umberger Garden.

Bank of GA art

"Clouds Rolling In", a larger version of a subject I used previously.   This one is 16 x 20, oil on canvas, framed.   The colors are nicer in this one    May try it again in a more abstract version, just for fun.
$295.00

beachin' it at the Carnegie

Quick oil sketch of a beach scene, a demo done during the Newnan March Art Walk, I was at the Carnegie Library.
8 x 10 oil on panel         $150

Male Museum, a historical site in Newnan.   Painted plein air on a recent gorgeous sunny day.    The perspective kind of drove me nuts.   Next painting has to be a landscape--nature, a more forgiving subject!      The folks walking by were pretty interesting though.

This one may be displayed in City Hall this coming quarter.
8 x 10 oil on panel.  $175.00

Kind of scary portrait, but the model was cheap (LOL!).   Good way to work out some skin tone practice though.    Weather is getting nice, so I'll have to move outdoors.  Probably find some better models too!

Rest Stop Finished

jeff n bella final 003

Oil, 11 x 14, wrapped canvas.    Jeff and Bella taking a break.  I think this is finished, still looking. . . .    Dogs are my favorite subject, followed by horses, and then, once in a while, people!

First plein air 2010

lake peachtree warm cloudy

Finally warm (and dry) enough to paint outside.  This is a small oil , 5 x 7 on gesso panel.   However, I did learn, not to take my non-painting partner with me—entirely too much grousing about time!  Even so, Lake Peachtree was still fun, tho the trees were a bit barren looking without leaves.  Felt so o o good to be outside painting.

WIP - Rest Stop

"Rest Stop"-  pastel 8 x 10   a prelimary sketch for an 11 x 14 oil in the works.   A new comission.   Bella (the dog) needs to move a bit closer to Jeff.  The line of the creek was changed for composition purposes.    Pastels help me decide on the values for the work.
